"Slave to the Grind, eventually you'll get paid."
I'm getting rich
to be sad in peace
I'm getting rich to be sad in peace
I'm getting rich to be sad in peace
The photo series "I’m getting rich to be sad in peace" explores the immense pressure on artists to constantly create new works for attention and financial success. In today’s art world, it's not just about creative expression but also about the commercialization of art and personal suffering.
Artists are driven to outdo themselves continually, often leading to exhaustion, inner emptiness, and depression. The exhibition examines the tension between art and commerce, revealing the high price artists pay for success.
It illustrates how the focus on external achievements and relentless self-optimization burns out their spirit and perpetuates the illusion that wealth can bring inner peace. In this context, Anastasija Kocevska highlights the quest for wealth, particularly in relation to her native Macedonia, which has profoundly shaped her perspective. There, the pursuit of financial success and status is widespread; expensive cars and branded clothing are common symbols of wealth, while many households struggle with broken tiles and faulty appliances. "Hoodrich" becomes the motto, maintaining a facade of prosperity while true quality of life often suffers.
Kocevska underscores how this contradiction between external glamour and inner lack burdens people and widens the gap between the pursuit of wealth and actual living conditions.
